College Access Foundation and Launch New

California Financial Aid Award Comparison Tool

April 16, 2012 – The College Access Foundation of California is pleased to announce the launch of a new Financial Aid Award Comparison Tool.   The user-friendly tool allows California students to compare their financial aid packages from colleges and universities across the state.
Based on grantee suggestions, the Foundation invested in this tool to help students assess California-specific aid packages which often include Cal Grants and institutional awards from the UC and CSU systems.
What is the Financial Aid Award Comparison Tool?
Developed in partnership with, and with input from our grantees, this tool gives students a summary of their remaining unmet need and helps them compare the ratios of “free aid” (including Cal Grants and institutional awards) to “loan aid” between different financial aid offers. The tool also connects students to a repayment calculator that provides valuable information about loan repayment options.

Students who create a free account on can compare up to six financial aid packages at a time.  They can also save or print their comparison worksheets for quick reference.
Start Using the Tool.
To access the tool, students should visit and complete the following steps:
  1. Click “Finance” then “Compare Financial Aid Awards
  2. Select the California college or university from the drop down menu (the total cost of attendance will auto-populate)
  3. Enter the information from the award letters
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Save Worksheets and Compare Awards
We encourage you to share this message with anyone who may find it useful in their financial aid decision process.  If you have questions or suggestions for how we might improve the tool, please contact Michael Burton at
